Important Notice Regarding the SPE Canadian Section and the Petroleum Society of CIM

3/28/2007
Your SPE Canadian Section Board of Directors would like to inform you that the Board of Directors of the Petroleum Society of CIM has today proposed to its members that “the Petroleum Society amicably exit from the CIM as an independent organization, and create a new organization with the Society’s long-time collaborator and petroleum sector partner, the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).” This proposal is made with the support of SPE International and the SPE Canadian Section.

The proposal calls for the creation of a new organization (SPE Canada) by joining the Petroleum Society of CIM with the SPE Canadian Section. This unified Canadian petroleum industry organization will be able to make more effective and efficient use of available volunteer and financial resources, and offer its members an overall wider range of local and international services and benefits.

We ask all members of the SPE Canadian Section to support this proposal. SPE members who also are members of the Petroleum Society are strongly encouraged to return their mail ballots to the Petroleum Society by April 27, 2007 with a “Yes” vote.

Further details on this very significant proposal will be made available on the SPE Canadian Section website (www.speca.ca). In the meanwhile, please feel free to e-mail or call the SPE Canadian Section Officers listed below if you have any questions.

Thank you
